Myth #4. You need to have hundreds of your own recipes which you've tried personally.
FALSE. Don't be fooled into thinking the cookbook authors you see on TV have personally made each of the thousands of recipes they've published in their cookbooks. The truth is, as long as you can verify that the recipe works and it fits your cookbook theme, you can consider using it. I'll show you where to find recipes you can use and how to easily format your own recipes.
Myth #5. It's difficult to verify where the recipe came from and you may get sued for using it.
FALSE. According to copyright law:
“Mere listings of ingredients as in recipes, formulas, compounds or prescriptions are not subject to copyright protection. However, where a recipe or formula is accompanied by substantial literary expression in the form of an explanation or directions, or when there is a combination of recipes, as in a cookbook, there may be a basis for copyright protection.”
Don't get me wrong, I don't advise you to steal other people's recipes, but the law clearly states that you can use a recipe as long as you're not using the "substantial literary expression" from the author's instructions. That means you can keep the ingredients the same and, as long as you re-write the directions in your own words, you should be safe. Plus, authors usually copyright their entire cookbook, not individual recipes.
Now, don't go and re-write someone's entire cookbook. Be original, find you're own idea. But at the same time, don't worry that one recipe you got from a magazine 10 years ago is off limits - especially if you've made it and improved on it over the years.
The bottom line is, I'm not a lawyer and I can't offer legal advice - so don't use what I say as such. But I can tell you what my experience has been.
Myth #6. You need to be very tech savvy or a computer expert.
FALSE. Like I mentioned, these days, user-friendly software and inexpensive freelancers will do everything you need done. After publishing five cookbooks, I still don't know Quark, PageMaker, Typesetting, PHP or any of that techie stuff. If you're savvy enough to log on and read this letter, I can show you how to get your cookbook done.
Myth #7. You need to get a book deal or have a good agent.
The course does cover where to find a good agent and how to get your books in stores. However, you can also do quite well by self-publishing because you keep all of the profits. Membership-Plugin has 3 default user group types. Free, Trial and Paying. You can easily create as many free, trial and paid subscriptions as you need. Each subscription can be assigned to a separate membership level allowing you to offer your users multiple subscription options.
There are no restrictions at all on the number of membership levels that your site has. Membership-Plugin will easily manage a site with just one membership level as well as sites that need a huge number of membership levels.
You have full control of every aspect of subscriptions. You can have as many subscriptions per membership level as you need. You can set how often the subscriptions will collect money, everything from 1 day to 99 years.
Membership-Plugin fits seamlessly into your blog and lets you trigger it’s protection features on any post, page or category by selecting one or more membership levels that you want to allow access to the content.
With Membership-Plugin you can create a post or page for everyone which has a protected block of text. You can conrol what messages are presented to users who are not logged in or registered and are viewing the post or page with the protected text in it. Once registered or logged in to the correct membership level, they will be able to see the content as if it were a normal page.
Both files and links can be protected in a number of forms. You can prevent anyone from accessing your files and then use Membership-Plugin to protect the posts, pages and categories that you have the files linked from. Membership-Plugin uses Paypal IPN so that your users are only activated when their payment is confirmed as cleared funds.
